The Mueller Report

·      April 18, 2019

WASHINGTON — Robert S. Mueller III revealed a frantic, months long effort by President Trump to thwart the investigation into Russia’s 2016 election interference, cataloging in a report released on Thursday the attempts by Mr. Trump to escape an inquiry that imperiled his presidency from the start.

While the report does not find that the president or his campaign aides had committed any crimes in their contacts with Russians, it lays bare how Mr. Trump was elected with the help of a foreign power. When a federal inquiry was started to investigate the Russian effort, he took numerous steps to try to undermine it.
The special counsel found that Mr. Trump had the authority to make many of his most controversial decisions, including the firing of James B. Comey as F.B.I. director, by virtue of the powers the Constitution grants him. At the same time, it is a far more damning portrayal of his behavior than the one presented last month in a four-page letter released by Attorney General William P. Barr.

You Paid Your Taxes: Trump, and these corporations did not

About twice as many of the largest U.S. companies reported they didn’t owe taxes in 2018 compared with previous years, a partial result of the 2017 Trump tax law, according to a report.

About twice as many of the largest U.S. companies reported they didn’t owe taxes in 2018 compared with previous years, a partial result of the 2017 Trump tax law, according to a report.

This story was published in partnership with NBC News.
INTRODUCTION
Taxpayers are scrambling to make last-minute payments due to the Internal Revenue Service in just four days, but many of the country’s largest publicly-held corporations are doing better: They’ve reported they owe absolutely nothing on the billions of dollars in profits they earned last year.
At least 60 companies reported that their 2018 federal tax rates amounted to effectively zero, or even less than zero, on income earned on U.S. operations, according to an analysis released today by the Washington, D.C.-based think tank, the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy. The number is more than twice as many as ITEP found roughly, per year, on average in an earlier, multi-year analysis before the new tax law went into effect.

Oppose Trump's Racist Lies

Trump is using immigrants and refugees at the border to stoke fear and create chaos so he can con all of us out of more money and freedom for his racist anti-immigrant agenda.
This is a deliberate strategy by Trump, Stephen Miller, and the right-wing xenophobes in the administration to create a frenzy and terrorize immigrants—while abusing human rights, sacrificing our democracy, and funneling more of our money into his deportation and detention regime.
Instead of treating these immigrants and asylum-seekers like human beings, the deportation force is herding them into photo ops to manipulate politics and get Trump what he wants. We can’t let ourselves fall into his trap.
That's why my organization, United We Dream, teamed up with MoveOn to lay it all out in this two-minute video. Will you check out and share this short video so everyone knows what the Trump administration is scheming and how to stand up to it?

And after you watch this video, please share it with friends and family.
Too many news sources are amplifying images of Trump's manufactured chaos without giving essential context to understand what's happening at the border and why. That bigger picture is laid out in our video and reflects the work United We Dream, MoveOn members, and many others have been doing to stop Trump's racist attacks on immigrants and on our democracy since he assumed office.
Thanks for all you do.

Trump creates more crisis at the border.

“If the drugs don’t stop or aren’t largely stopped, we’re going to put tariffs on Mexico and products, in particular cars — the whole ballgame is cars,” he said. “And if that doesn’t stop the drugs, we close the border.”

Here is a good piece on the background to the Trump administration’s jailing even more children and families.

Here is a good piece on how various segments of the Democrats consider the many parts of the immigration issues.
