Insurrectionists Experience Consequences As Jan. 6th Hearings Begin | Th...

AOC on the Jan. 6 Coup

In the days and weeks after the January 6 attack, right-wingers tried to downplay what happened. They said it was small. They accused us of lying by saying the attack was “only” at the Capitol dome.

The footage and evidence from the January 6th committee hearing in Congress this week proves that no – they were everywhere. The screams were everywhere.

This is what American terrorism looks like.

Here’s just a few of the revelations from the hearing and other crucial facts.

  • The committee will provide proof that Rep. Scott Perry and multiple other Republican members of Congress sought presidential pardons for their rolesin attempting to overturn the 2020 election and their actions on January 6. It means they consciously knew and believed that their actions were criminal and proceeded to support an attempted coup of the U.S.

  • The committee released not previously publicly seen video footage from police body cameras, Capitol hallway and office footage, as well as police radio communication, that shows just how coordinated and dangerous the events were. Meanwhile, Republicans like Lauren Boebert were tweeting Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s location as this was all happening.

  • Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ wife was involved in January 6th. She attended the rally and relentlessly urged the President’s Chief to overturn the US election. Justice Thomas later refused to recuse himself from rulings related to the matter.1

  • 21 Republicans voted against granting the Congressional Gold Medal to Capitol police officers who tried to defend the Capitol on January 6.2

The facts unveiled are extremely serious and could potentially lead to charges from the Department of Justice. This committee is bipartisan – both Republican and Democratic members were part of the investigation that uncovered these facts – and yesterday was just day one.

Republicans are walking away from this. Trying to pretend it didn’t happen. It’s our responsibility to remember. The next hearings will take place on Monday and Wednesday at 10:00 AM ET. To watch the hearings, visit the Jan 6 Committee YouTube channel here.

Lastly, the choice we are facing this November is not between two political parties. It’s a choice to save our democracy or to turn it over to the rioters that stormed the Capitol. If you’re able to chip in to help us go toe-to-toe with right-wing Republicans who are still trying to spread lies about what happened, you can do so here.

We’ll keep you posted as the hearings continue.

With resolve,

Team AOC

Poor People's Campaign

Are you ready for June 18?

The Mass Poor People's & Low-Wage Workers' Assembly and Moral March on Washington and to the Polls is this month! People from all across the country are coming together to mount a challenge to the interlocking evils of systemic racism, poverty, the war economy, ecological devastation, the denial of healthcare and the distorted moral narrative of religious nationalism. Sign up and let us know you're coming.

Here are some ways to prepare yourself and others for this transformational event…

Attend our welcome session
Tuesday June 7, 3:30pm | RSVP (live online)

Thursday June 9, 6pm | RSVP (recording and Q&A)
Final preparations are being put in place for a California delegation, which includes 40 people impacted by poverty and dozens of moral witnesses, advocates/allies and faith leaders. This “Welcome to June 18” session will be focused on both in-person and virtual participation, and we will hear about the events leading up to and planned for the Mass Assembly. Several campaign organizers will be offering testimony about why they are "going BACK to Washington," having participated in one or more direct actions in D.C. in 2021.

There will be a breakout session for people planning to participate virtually, including how to host or join a watch party. This meeting will be closed-captioned.
